Countdown...Day 25

Today was great.  Our Project Manager, Dean, came out to play.  He's the pro and has truly helped this project get to where it is because of his generous gift of time and wisdom...and straight up physical labour!

We got the underlayment down and Dean prepared the Kitchen and Bathroom pieces of vinyl for glueing (happening on Thursday) while I started preparing the floor in the mudroom for underlayment (that will be tomorrow).  Marty even got to give us a hand doing some scraping/levelling of any bumps or rises in the floor levelling compound.  He likes to help and is a good worker!

I placed one of our finished trim boards against the wall with the new vinyl (temporarily) down and it looks really nice.  The picture doesn't do it justice, but it's rich and warm to the senses.

Countdown...Day 26

Second coat of varnish on the new doors.  They look really good.  Last coat will go on after they are hung.

Second coat of floor levelling in kitchen and bathroom.  Ready for subfloor and possibly vinyl tomorrow!  First coat in school room and laundry room too.

Kitchen window installed today.  Quite a bit brighter in the kitchen during the day now.

Countdown...Day 27

Well, I scraped and sanded the first layers of floor levelling and put on a second layer today at the house.  That's it.  I also slept almost 12 hours last night.  I plan for at least 10 tonight.  My cold is draining my energy so liquids and sleep (and meds) it is!

Countdown...Day 28

Today we put one coat of the Satin Varnish on the new doors!

I also started laying down self levelling compound on some of the rooms that really need it.

Here's the kitchen before the self levelling compound.

Kitchen with one coat of self levelling compound.

Bathroom spots of self levelling compound.

Countdown...Day 29

Today we have our "brown bag" paint colour on all our walls.  Tomorrow get's the second and final coats.  Max mentioned today that it looks green while we were out walking.  I disagreed...until I saw this picture.  But really, it's brown, like a brown bag...that's why it's called "Brown Bag!"  The second pic does it better justice.

The doors got stained today...turned out pretty nice, I'd say!  Varnish for the win over the next couple days with 2-3 coats.

The trim/baseboard/casing got it's 2nd and final coat of satin varnish.

Countdown...Day 30

Got wood?  We do!  This is what was behind a few walls in the house so we've repurposed them.  Today was varnish day.  A light sand and another coat tomorrow and they should be good to go for installation!  These will become the baseboards, casings and trim throughout the house.

Countdown...Day 31

It's now October 1st.

Every day this month is one day closer to moving back into our renovated home.

And so, the countdown begins.

This is day 31...every day counts.

Today I picked up our three new interior doors.  We need to stain them to hopefully match the existing door/trim colour.  It's a difficult process to do considering how things yellow over time.  But here's a pic of what they look like raw.
